The Practice of Yoga dates back thousand of years originating in India, where the original texts were first written in the ancient language of Sanskrit. The practice was focused on the unification of the Individual Intelligence with the Universal Intelligence. Yoga incorporates a series of posture (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and concentration and meditation techniques for creating health in our bodies through physical effort and inner peace in our minds through quiet centering.
Yoga as a Physical Practice
By a regular practice of Yoga postures (asanas) and Yoga breathing exercises (pranayama), the individual achieves increased flexibility, strength and muscle tone, and the benefits of balanced alignment of the body and mind which relieves physical, mental and emotional stress. Yoga creates essential vitality.
Yoga as a Mental Discipline
During the asana practice, attention and focus are required to develop inner awareness. Sitting still in concentration and meditation enhances inner calmness.
Yoga as an Emotional Journey
Through the awareness of the breath, the physical asanas and the calm mind, one is able to express their emotions with joy and openness, free of judgment or attachment.
Yoga as a Spiritual Path
Yoga is not a religion; it is a systematized way of exploring spiritual philosophies and endeavors, towards expanding awareness of the Self and the World around us.
